greetings Elementary School District 159 families community and staff the month of April was quite busy for us please join me in congratulating the Colin Powell band led by Daniel Jensen engine for Perry they travel to Hinsdale last Saturday to participate in a state competition and here is how they were rated look at that ban received a rating of the concert band received a rating of superior the highest rating Bravo great job Young Musicians congratulations to the pals Earth Day essay contest winners we will celebrate each of you this Thursday May 2nd in the afternoon presenting you with your gift cards and certificates well-done I would also like to acknowledge Mario gate staff nurse Mi and Miss Brianna Martin for their efforts in promoting World Health day your classroom pledge was awesome and we hope your Scholars enjoyed their special treat last month we also celebrated our Administrative Professionals and bus drivers thanks so much for your commitment to our school district last but certainly not least each of our schools planted a tree in Arbor Day the scholars will name their tree and they promised to take good care of their school trees they did a great job speaking about the importance of Arbor Day the planting of their tree he will be one of their lasting Legacy I would like to thank the Communications Department for their efforts and establishing our April recognitions and things may is mental health awareness month which has been Reserve in May in the United States since 1949 the month is observed with local events in communities across the United States to our Elementary School District 159 faculty staff families and I want to remind you that it is okay not to be okay we want to combat the mental health stigma and will be providing resources support and encouragement throughout the month our schools has a social worker and our middle school has both a social worker and a school counselor to meet the needs of our students and staff please reach out to them if you have any questions or require any assistance the month of May will be a busy one as we will host several events prior to the end of the school year on Thursday May 2nd we will hold our annual state of the district address join us at the stamp administrative Center as we take a look back at this school year and provided vision for the 2024 to 2025 school year the state of the district will begin promptly at 6 p.m. it will also be live stream for your convenience May 3rd is Staff appreciation day and we will have an afternoon of acknowledgement appreciation and fun our staff is simply awesome and he wants to thank them and let them know we value and appreciate each of them Cinco de Mayo is Sunday a yearly celebration held to honor Mexico victory over the second French Empire at the bow in 1862 the holiday has begun become associated with the celebration of Mexican American culture during the month of May we will also acknowledge our school principals teachers and mushroom hero each of these important people have shown a commitment to our school district and we truly appreciate them Scholars and staff alike are invited to have fun with us for National two different color shoes have fun with us once more on May 14th with national dance like a chicken day take videos and photos and share them with us at communications at DIS t-150 on May 9th we will hold our annual face award to acknowledge parents and community members who have contributed to the success of our family engagement programs will be held at Colin Powell and begin promptly at 6 p.m. on May 16th we will host our final awards ceremony acknowledging students and nominated staff for their excellence in hard work we look for for this important event and staff students and families come together in support of one another Colin Powell 8th graders we will graduate on May 24th at the Tinley Park Convention Center the last day of school is Thursday May 30th we look forward to our Scholars returning next school year and opportunity to continue to be a part of their learning experience and growth so be on the lookout for the information about a 100 35th Anniversary in back-to-school celebration which will be held on August 17th mark your calendars a few reminders preschool screenings are May 3rd at Woodgate school registration gone going please register your child or children today on May 15th Board of Education meeting is at 6:30 p.m. please join us last day of attendance again for students is May last day of attendance for staff is May 31st thanks for your continued support throughout the school year as we strive to drive and 159 thank you
