Hello I am Dr. Mable Alfred the proud superintendent of Elementary School District 159 where our mission statement is to educate and Empower and Inspire the whole child we are focused on educational Excellence as well as 21st century Learners and leaders. Committed to excellence since 1869 the district includes five sites four grade schools Woodgate Armstrong Yates and Sieden Prairie as well as Colin Powell Middle School. At every grade level students enjoy numerous opportunities to learn grow and explore their passion with a rigorous academic curriculum Our course offerings foster skills and attitudes that enable children to think critically, creatively, and constructively facilitating 21st Century Learning. Our 1 to 1 initiative ensure that technology is a  key component inside and outside the classroom. From interactive whiteboards and wireless access to individual Chromebooks provided for every student. Colin Powell Middle School offers many unique learning opportunities including award-winning underwater robotics program.  Our Middle School also has a state-of-the-art applied technology lab featuring a  broadcast and production studio. Currently under construction, our new STEM Center provide modern learning spaces for open STEM engagement.  We are pretty much a family and I just love and I just love the fact that not only do I sit on the board of education I am also a parent in the district. And I just love the fact that my kids are representation of Elementary School District 159, a past Blue Ribbon school or passed school that you know believe in fighting for our children. Students can also pursue their new interest with a wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities. Those interested in the Performing Arts may choose to join our award-winning band or one of our two exceptional choir programs.  Students also stay active and learn good sportsmanship through our many athletic programs for boys and girls. Our students have even earned South Suburban Junior High School athletic honors With a supportive learning environment, endless opportunities for growth, we help every child education take flight.
