Greetings Elementary School District 159 Scholars, staff, families and Community spring is here and it brings an array of events and activities to our school district as we enter the final quarter of the school year last month Scholars completed their IR test I am thankful for our staff for their commitment and assistance in preparing our Scholars for the assessment congratulations to our Colin Powell Middle School band students on successful performance at the igsma band and concert band received a first-place rating achieving first place ratings both bands the privilege of performing at the IGSMA State contest held on Saturday April 27th don't miss the band spring concert on Thursday evening April 25th at school and Powell Middle School a special thank you to mr. Dan Jensen and Miss Jennifer Perry for their leadership of our young musicians during the month of March in celebration of women's history month we highlighted District employees who were authors and entrepreneurs and those in community service we also engage our Scholars with our door decoration contest congratulations to our winners Elementary School District 159 made history by celebrating our first Harriet Tubman day on March 1st we also announced the recipient of our inaugural Harriet Tubman courage and sir this award congratulations to Mrs. Toinette Weems 4th grade teacher at Neil Armstrong Elementary School a special thank-you goes to those who join Elementary School District 159 celebrated her story day on Tuesday March 19th at Colin Powell Middle School among our panelists were Monique Rodriguez of Mielle products Commander sergeant major Faith Alexander US Army Keisha Lewis Esq. Department of Education and Dr. Ebony Gist of Arc Point Labs our staff and Community basketball game was an evening of fun and excitement congratulations to the community team on their win our five weeks Saturday coding class begins on April 13th the classes are held from 9 a.m. until 10:50 registration is available on the district's website and those will be held at the stem Center. Registration is now open for the 2020 for 2025 school year for more information or to register your scholar visit our website we are wishing all students and staff a safe enjoyable and relaxing week as the district will be closed for spring break March 29th until April 5th school will resume on Monday April 8th the committee of the whole meeting will be held on April 10th at 6:30 the Board of Education meeting will be held on April 17th at 6:30 p.m. please join us at the Simpson Center in closing I remain grateful to our staff and family for your ongoing support as we continue to thrive in ESD 159 thank you
