Teaching, Learning and Accountability - Elementary School District 159 | 2025-2026

The Teaching, Learning, and Accountability (TLA) Department of Elementary School District 159 is committed to advancing academic excellence, equity, and whole-child development through the intentional implementation of our 2025–2030 Strategic Plan. Our mission is to create inclusive, engaging, and academically rigorous learning environments where every student is empowered to thrive.

A core focus of our work is strengthening Tier 1 instruction by ensuring the consistent use of evidence-based, standards-aligned core curriculum across all subject areas. We support educators in designing and delivering instruction that promotes high levels of student engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving, skills essential for success in college, career, and civic life. Our department provides targeted professional development, job-embedded coaching, and collaborative learning structures to help teachers refine instructional practices and build classroom environments that foster inquiry and academic discourse.

Aligned with our strategic plan goals, we are committed to:

  • Increasing reading and math proficiency through comprehensive literacy and
    mathematics frameworks;

  • Expanding STEAM integration across all K–8 classrooms by embedding interdisciplinary
    curriculum, project-based learning, and dedicated STEAM instructional time;

  • Cultivating a culture of student voice, choice, and agency, and ensuring meaningful
    participation in personalized learning experiences;

  • Embedding social-emotional learning and wellness practices across daily instruction to
    support the whole child.

Through ongoing curriculum development, equitable access to high-quality instructional resources, and sustained partnerships with families, community organizations, and higher education institutions, the TLA Department works to ensure that all students in ESD 159 receive the support, challenge, and opportunity they need to achieve at the highest levels.

Together, we are building future-ready learners prepared to lead, innovate, and thrive in a rapidly changing world.
