Google Password Change

District Google Account Password Changes (Students)

In order to maintain a secure teaching and learning environment, it is important that all users accessing district equipment and data adhere to practices and policies which will help keep our environment safe for all.   One of the easiest practices to help keep the learning environment safe is to change passwords on a regular basis.  Also, it's very important not to use passwords which are easy for someone to guess.

While we recognize that changing passwords can be a challenge for younger students, you can work with them to use phrases, such as “Ilikered2!”.

Our first step to securing our network will be to enforce ALL students to change their Google Account passwords.  This change will take effect on Wednesday, September 2nd after 6PM.

What will happen?

For Grades 3-8 Students

  1. When the student logs into their district Google Account, it ends with @students.dist159.com, as normal they will be prompted to enter their password.

  2. After entering their current password, a screen will be displayed prompting them to enter a new password.  The page will have a Google Logo and state “Change Password”, Create a new strong password that you don’t use for other websites

    1. The password must be 8 characters, should contain one uppercase character, lowercase character, a number and a special character(#!$@). - DO NOT USE THE STUDENT ID NUMBER AS THE NEW PASSWORD

  3. You will have to enter the new password a second time to confirm that it was typed in correctly the first time.

  4. If you forget the password, you can email technologydept@dist159.com to request that it be reset, but we will not be able to tell you the password, because we can’t see it.  You will be required to provide a call back number so that we can confirm your identity.
