A+nywhere / A+nytime Learning is our pride and joy!

Thanks to our Citrix Thin Client environment we are able to offer
unending learning opportunities to our students.
Across the Internet, students can log in to our network and take advantage of all the same programs and applications they do during school hours.  If you have not already taken advantage of our home-school
connection, feel free to contact any of our project coordinators for details and help.

Computers are available for all grades and ages in District 159.  Teachers bring their classes to the lab on a sign-up basis.  There are also 2 computers in each classroom for student use.

Mobile computer labs also bring technology to the classroom.  Laptop computers are available in each school for projects and interactive classroom needs.  All district buildings have wireless access points allowing computer use in any room, hallway or office.

Even the youngest students learn computer etiquette, mouse and keyboard basics, and use many of our early learning programs.  District 159 uses programs that grow with the student, and correlate to the Illinois State Standards.

Helpful Hints for You and Your Computer......

Checklist for your PC.........  read through this document first!

Web browser requirements for Citrix:

MetaFrame Secure Access Manager supports Microsoft Internet Explorer versions
5.0 and 5.5 with Service Pack 2, and version 6.0 with Service Pack 1. Internet
Explorer is supported on Windows platforms only.

Important MetaFrame Secure Access Manager requires that the latest service pack
be installed on each supported Web browser.

MetaFrame Secure Access Manager delivers access center content to client Web
browsers by transmitting Web pages encoded with HTML and JavaScript. In most
cases, standard client configurations can support MetaFrame Secure Access
Manager.

You must ensure the following settings are configured for each Web browser:
                 Enable execution of client-side JavaScript
Allow downloading of signed ActiveX controls
Allow downloading of Java applets if you provide MetaFrame published
resources in your access center and restrict users to the Java ICA Client

For information about how to configure these settings in Web browsers, see the
online help for the Web browser.

Citrix Remote Issues

Occasionally remote users may experience problems due to dissimilar computers, operating systems, and version levels. This guide can be used to help resolve some of the more common problems. If after reviewing this document you still continue to experience problems, please let the District Team Team know of the issues for further resolution.

Problem: The user receives an error “The gateway client timed out waiting for a connection”

Solution: By design the access portal builds a new window which creates the user environment. The Elearn site requires that popup blockers are allowed for that site.

If you are using the popup blocker that is part of Windows, you will need to perform the following steps.

• Open up Internet Explorer • Click on Tools | Pop-Up Blocker | Pop-up blocker Settings. • In the field “Address of Web site to allow”, type in http://elearn.dist159.com and then click the Add button. • Click Close to save those settings.

If you are using a third party pop-up blocker, refer to the product documentation. Most programs have an enable feature that you can choose.

Problem: After enter the user credentials; the browser displays the error “The page cannot be displayed”

Solution: If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 2, there is an additional hot fix available from Microsoft that needs to be applied.

Click on the link below and download the file from this location. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;%5bLN%5d;884020

Problem: The user receives an error “Unable to open launch.ica

Solution: This error is caused by the local client not having a Citrix client installed. In order to open up a Citrix published application, your computer must have the Citrix client installed. To install the Citrix Client for Windows XP/Vista/2003/2008, click on the following link.  The link will direct you to the Citrix XenApps Plugin download.

The following .PDF document will assist you with the client configuration process.

Problem: After clicking on an application to open, the user may receive an error “ICA file not found”

Solution: Occasionally problems can occur if Citrix has difficulty creating the Citrix ICA file on the local machine. This is normally saved under the temporary Internet files location on the local computer.

To clear the temporary Internet files, perform the following steps:

• Open up Internet Explorer • Click on Tools | Options • On the General tab, under the Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button. • Check the box to “Delete all offline content” and then click OK.

Depending on how frequently you perform this task, it can take several minutes. When it is finished, click OK to close the Internet Options window.
