Spelling Bee Information
Wonder what the “BUZZ” is all about? The students of School District 159 are preparing for the annual School District 159 Spelling Bee! During the month of January, our students in grades 4 and 5 will be participating in spelling bees at the classroom level, hoping to earn a place in the grade level bees! The dates for the School and District Level Spelling Bees will be announced before the winter break. In the meantime, follow the links to begin preparing for the bees!
Students at Colin Powell Middle School will be participating in grade level spelling bees during the month of December, 2011, hoping to win places in the District Spelling Bee on January 27, 2012. The 2012 Spell It! And other study materials are listed here.
You can help your child shine at the Spelling Bees by working with them over the next two months. You can help your 4th or 5th grader get ready by using the words from the attached Spelling Lists for Grades 3, 4, & 5 which are available in PDF form. Middle school students can use the lists for grades 6 through 8, also available in PDF. Also, any curriculum words (Social Studies, Math, & Science vocabulary) and vocabulary from Wordly Wise have a chance of appearing in the bees.
Please encourage your children to spend some time looking over the lists of words. Spelling Bees are fun, educational, and an important part of the School District 159 curriculum. We look forward to seeing you at our individual school and district spelling bees in January and February.
